I don't have any wooden plate, nor even a paper plate, but I do have an old Led Zepplin album cover I will use.

It would pass in Arkansas. The "sealed" open window should let in just as much cold air as the hot air from the stove produces. So, it's a wash. All systems are Go.

I once saw a basement stove pipe installation on Vermont where the pipe ran the full length of the ceiling before exiting at the side opposite the stove. The owner said he heated about half the upstairs with the pipe alone. Somehow the building inspector approved it. Imagine cleaning that thing every year.
