One of the tree services I do work for brought me their ms441c. It blew up bad and trying to get opinions on why. I’ll go through the whole bottom end new seals and everything alone with bearings if needed when I look closer. Bottom end is nice and smooth still and saws only about 1 year old when I popped. Cylinder is junk for sure so new top end for sure besides whatever else it needs. Might not even get rebuilt for him I’d he doesn’t want to spend the money on it or it will sit till I source cheap parts used.

Did it start to score then break the rings or vise versa, ring broke then jammed causing the carnage.

Mtronic saw so I know it’s unlikely that it went lean but intake boot looks good no visible tares ect and the gas was mixed for sure 50:1 with everybody’s favorite Stihl ultra. I know it’s not a well liked oil here but that’s what they run.

I know it looks straight gassed but I drained the gas it was run on when it died and it was for sure mixed 50:1 Stihl ultra. Other saws running same gas and all fine

Did you check the gas in the carb? I only ask because that’s textbook straight gas. The intake side rarely scores with oil on it

here’s the gas that came out of the saw no water or anything, definitely mixed and the carb had mixed gas in it. Along with some oil in the bottom of the case

Nice and sharp still they have lots of spares and swap when they get rocked or hit metal. Otherwise they touch up every or every other tank. It’s a father and his kids that have a tree service and they were all taught how to take care of a saw. The keeping saws sharp and good mix are a big reason he’s still running some 0 series saws from pre 2000.

I don’t know if they ever started a YouTube channel they talked about it awhile back for a bit. I know they have a Facebook page for the tree service for sure.

Put your new top end on and pressure/vac test and check the fuel filter and line, if it passes, run to confirm proper tune is had.

I will when I get a top end, probably shelving it till I find a used cylinder like I did for the last 362 that went down. That was shelved till recently when I found a new top end for a ms 362 for sale on here. He wasn’t ultra fond of this saw in the first place because it only made if for around one year then blew. So no way he’s dumping 350-375 on a new top right now and I don’t have a lot of faith in aftermarket top ends for every day use.

Also strange the way this one blew being it’s an mtronic because I’ve heard of saws with a bad crank seal that ran normal until the seal just about ripped in half
