So I just picked up a well used 250R that I believe needs a carb. Runs very poorly hard to start. Is there anything else that I should do to it besides the carb and spark plug? Are all the carbs you can buy basically the same? (junk) I bought a tune up kit from Amazon to at least see if I can get it to run decent. Wish me luck

Attention, this model series 4134 (also FS 250 belongs to it) had a lot of updates. It would be good to know your serial number and year of manufacture to find the right parts. Carburetors were also changed and got a modified throttle lever. If your brushcutter is a older version (depending on the serial number) you need the older carb too.

Thanks I don’t know the serial number but will look is there anywhere to reference the number with date of manufacture. I do know it has a C1Q-S83 carb. Can you tell me if that would that be the odd carb?

upload_2019-5-2_17-56-52.png In the picture is the serial number location marked. (On the exhaust site) Your previous carb C1Q-S83 is NLA. The superceded version is the C1Q-S162A (4134 120 0653). For that carb is also the new heat shield 4134 122 1804 nessessary but it comes with the new carburetor.

Any ideas for the best place to get that carb? The dealer wants $65. Probably why I got the unit for $50

Would anyone know if the generic 4134 120 0603 carb would work. Even if just to see if the rest of the unit is worth buying the high dollar carb. Would hate to spend $65 to find more problems

Welcome to OPE.

I would also take a look at the muffler screen and the baffle inside the muffler. I’ve seen the baffles plugged up with carbon. Other then that check fuel and air filters.

This is the number of the C1Q-S82 carb of the FS 120, you have on the FS 250 the C1Q-S83 (part no. 4134 120 0604)

If you find an aftermarket one, this could be a solution. But you never know the quality.

Thanks I had been told that it would be a good idea to open the screen(cat) up with a drill bit. Has anyone gutted their cat muffler?

I don’t think anyone around here has a stock muffler.... lol. You’re going to want to make sure that it’s a fully adjustable carburetor Before you gut it. Take the muffler off and do the job because you’re going to need too clean any metal shavings out of it.

I’ve had good luck with aftermarket. Only thing I’ve run into is the idle screw on one carb working out.. a quick drop of blue thread lock fixed that.

Yes no matter what carb i end up with it will be fully adjustable if I have to I will buy the dealer carb would just like be sure the rest of the unit gearbox etc is worth the $65 cost of an odd carb.
Awesome thread link thanks I’m new to this “hobby” I’m seeing more projects I need now that I didn’t know I needed before

The beast is alive!

So I went ahead and put a 4134 120 0603 aftermarket carb on it and the unit runs great. Needs a little more adjusting on the carb. I took out the muffler screen and it was completely plugged, so I drilled 6 or 8 1/8 holes in the screen and replaced it. I would like to get a different muffler but having trouble finding anything other than dealer or from China.
Also would like to find a bike kit
Time to shred some brush!!
