Does anyone NOT like the 2-in-1? How hard could it be to use this thing properly, lol! I never seem to get a very good cutting action. If I just file by hand, it seems I cut better with each stroke. But reviews are good for this thing.

I just bought and put in brand new 13/64 (5.2mm) Stihl files (for 3/8, Stihl ms362 saw) in to make sure I have good files. Question...does it matter if you put the pointy end of the file in first or the opposite end? When I open the latch, I put one in pointy end down and the other, opposite end in first. Sorry, I could not find an answer to this via a Google search.

The 2-in-1 file guides (STIHL, PFERD) are popular for their simplicity.

They do not work on skip tooth chains. They also do not allow for custom angles or depth gauge settings, for people who want those.

So, they can be a good option, but not for everyone.

The guide is designed so that the files should only only go in one way.

Attached are scans of the instructions for this file guide.

Figure #14 shows how the round files are supposed to be inserted. The rectangular, depth gauge file has an angled end to help orient it as well. You can also consider which direction the file teeth are supposed to cut, when in use, if that helps. Personally, I fill in all the little, recessed arrows with a black, fine point Sharpie, on the ones we use with volunteers, to make them easier to see, and easier to orient the file guide.

Haven’t tried on larger chain but I actually like them real well for the .43 gauge 3/8” picco. Does nicely on the small thin teeth
