Well...this is going to be my first full year down, powder, restore saw.
Picked this carcass up for just this occasion. Was told it was froze up..but it had the majority of the body parts intact.
Main missing parts are clutch/sprocket, and carb. I have two other complete saws...so one will get tore down to complete this one.
This one was frozen up pretty bad. Still have yet to release the piston from the cylinder. Hopefully be able to salvage the cylinder. Time will tell. Looks like the piston was scored pretty good :/.
Here are a few pics of how I received it...

Here are a few photos during, and after tear down. Quite a bit of corrosion build up in the bottom end..hopefully the cases will be useable. I’ll try to get them cleaned up a bit better tomorrow after work.

Will not be a fast paced project. As long as I remember to take pics...I’ll be updating as I go along. I’ll be getting a pile ready for powder, and procuring needed seals/gaskets/bearings etc.
hoping to have it done for the PNW gtg in June.

Well. Bottom end on this is pretty rough inside. Here is a photo of the worst part. What do you think?? Usable?

That looks pretty rough, but with a lot of clean-up, it would be usable again. I wouldn't put it in a customer's saw but I would my own.

You'll need to check around the bearing pocket real good.

Bearing pocket seems to be in decent shape.
Since I have to tear down one of the others, I may just use a different set of cases. I’ll have to think on it.

As long as its structurally sound and can be made airtight it will work, also have seen worse ones still running. Clean it up so there won`t be bits getting loose, they find their way into the bearings along with between the piston and cyl walls, not good.

Just my 2 cents devalued by inflation, etc. i would restore the nicest one to showroom condition rather than the most beat up example. Then stick a 10 cube top end on the ratty one and build a fun gtg hot rod :)
But then i am a different breed of cat :)
