Not to split hairs, but to avoid confusion, doesn't that ring go beneath the decomp in the cylinder, not the crankcase?

Also, if you have a dealer close by, they are still available new for $0.49. If you don't have a dealer nearby let me know and I can send you one.

Cool. My mistake. Yesterday was busy.At least I knew what I was talking about! Lol. I certainly didn't think it was available. I'll contact the dealer Monday. I've been waiting 3weeks for a carburetor grommet, so what's a little more time. Thanks a lot.

Looks like a gasket to keep the decomp from leaking.

If your dealer is slow I can probably send you one; I have a few used decomps sitting here and I'm sure at least one of them will have the ring on it. Too bad about the carb grommet . . . I have a few of those too...

As Mike mentioned above, yes, it's basically a gasket to prevent leakage around the bottom mating face of the decomp valve.

Thats what I need. My decomp. Works right but I need a sleeve. Got the grommet coming the first week of March, hope its softer than the one I have. I'll call the dealer but if its a long way out I want to get this thing running. Would you be willing to sell me the sleeve? @NewToStihl

Sure thing. Let me know if your dealer gives you a long lead time and if so, I'll send you a sealing ring. I'd hate to see 121cc of muscle waiting on the sidelines for a stupid little part like that!

Thanks man. The decompression valve is leaking at the cutout in the cylinder, bad, doesn't have a sealing ring. I dont get a warm and fuzzy with any dealer around here as far as 880's and 084's go. Just don't have alot of them around here. I've been waiting for the 064 intake shim for about 1 month, just came in. Jacob J came to the rescue on the one I was working on at the time. Been waiting 1 1/2 months for that grommet. Stihl has got the worst parts network around this area. I'll be in touch!

That sucks. I'll take a gander to make sure I have a sealing ring and will get it sent to you. PM me your name & address. Also, if you'd like I can throw a carb grommet in there too. I'm not sure where "The land of pleasant living is", but I'm confident if that's in the US somewhere you could have your parts by Thursday at the latest.

As a heads up based on my personal experience with 084s. I don't know if you have noted the bad air leak from hearing it, or if you're pressure/vacuum testing it, but I've personally never had an 084 decomp (new or used) that didn't have at least a small bit of leakdown through it.

Lastly, I am absolutely not trying to question your knowledge or intelligence whatsoever, but just to make sure your bad leak is due to the sealing ring - do you for sure have the the side screw installed by the decomp? It's #11 in the diagram mdavlee posted above.

Yeah, side screws there. Took decompressiin valve off just to make sure. I have all the ipl's and that's what I was going off when I posted the number. I'm pretty sure this leak is due to the sealing ring. It bleeds down in about 20-25 seconds. When I got the saw the low side was about 2 1/2 turns out, the high about 1/4. At first I thought bad gaskets in the carb but I'm sure the leak didn't help it any. Thanks a lot, I owe you one.

What I meant to say is I took decrompression valve off to make sure sealing collar wasn't there. Due to time constraints it didn't come out right!! Lol

You are the Best! Let me know if there's anything at all I can do for you. I really want to get this thing up and running. I've had it sitting on the bench for too long. Last thing to do is put an oil line on it. Been looking forward to that for some time...not!! Lol

@NewToStihl Came today. Put the sealing collar in and put the grommet on. Fired her up, she sounds nice. Doesnt look to nice but she runs good. Waiting on an upper AV mount then I'm done with this for awhile. Oh, BTW, the oil line took me 3 hours to put on!! Dont ask!! Anything that could go wrong did go wrong. It's oiling like a champ now though. Thanks alot for the parts, if you ever need something and I've got it I owe you one!!

Glad to hear that saw is breathing again! When you say "waiting on an upper AV mount" do you mean you have one on the way, or that you're looking for one? They're getting tough to find...

If it's the large AV mount on the top left that attaches to the upper part of the tank housing they are NLA (no longer available) and are tough to find.
