When it came time to fire this saw up, it was blubbering rich and didn't care to run at one turn out, with the High speed adjustment all the way in it was still overly rich but would stay running was about all. Remembering that the Hi speed adjustment needle was damaged seemed to be a clue that the seat was also damaged and letting too much fuel in. These things are known to run rich, but this was ridiculous. In the 084 repair manual Stihl states there is a carburetor that has a fixed Hi speed, another with a semi fixed Hi speed and yet another one that is fully adjustable. What they don't tell you is which one is which. The are Tillitson models HT-1A, HT-2A and HT-7A. The original carburetor was a HT-2A and Alex purchased an HT-7A. Upon installing it, not knowing what to expect all I could do was try it. It came from the factory set at one turn out, this was encouraging. It ran good set up near like it came I only turned it a touch. With some 32:1 in the tank and a bit rich setting I did some cutting with it and was finally pleased. The video I had is gone, so you'll just have to go on my word as I sent back the big bar with .404" chain on it I borrowed to test it, as a fella I knew offered and seemed a better option than purchasing, as most likely I'll never need one again.
An interesting side note I had planned on running that bar on the 070 that I did at the time as well, it did not fit/work. While the mount is the same size, the holes for the adjuster tightener upper are in a different location. Some AM bars have both holes present to fit wither scenario. Stihl makes a different bar for each.

I might add that we have a MaxFlow filter setup for it ready and although I have a NOS filter cover as well, I do quite like the MaxFlow system, so thats whats going on it.

Speaking of NOS parts, it was quite the hassle to get some of that stuff for this built as the well seems to run dry for these lower production run (in terms of total numbers) type saws.

I put an old Metal cased filter on temporarily as Alex wanted to paint the Maxflo cover, and it didn't seem prudent to mess it up before hand. I tried talking the Maxflo guy into offering it in orange as well, but he quickly dismissed this as he liked the black to be more recognizable, i.e. a lead balloon.
I did try running (not cutting) it without any filter and it picked up 150 RPM over having the old one on.

Just wondering if there’s a way of modding that fuel pipe breather, so it don’t dribble while it’s sleeping on its side.
I got a 044 that’s similar and I’ve tried to mod it but haven’t come up with anything.

You can put an Echo style vent on. If you change the line you can make it fenagle around and keep out of the way just fine on an 044.
Here's one you can look at to see what it is, surely you can search out one where you are at then.

Yes Stihl 051,76, 84,881 use Stihl 3002 and 070-090 uses 3001 if I remember correctly

Do you have the red one-way umbrella valve in the tank?

I can’t actually remember, I know my 200t has one and I had a couple of red umbrellas and remembered using them..

So I would need to check..

Although I think I did try to framboozle some thing simular to what stump shot said. I will look and take a pic or 3 and poast black to here. 😉

Update - Was decided upon to make an insulation pad underneath the muffler, seeing as a new one wasn't in the cards. Alex sent some material to me to work with and the stipulation to make it in the vain of the original. Which a drawing of was looked at on the latest IPL, it didn't exist on older units. So I tried to get the best coverage that I could fitting and re-fitting until it was looking good. Upon placement where the adhesive kept everything down some slight shifting happened, going over the lumps and bumps here and there, which wasn't too terrible and it was stuck down pretty good, so I went with it.

Having been gifted a big mount bar from @tree monkey recently, (thank you again Scott) I thought it would be a good idea to try it and the saw out one more time and if for no other reason, test the new insulation out. So, I temporarily installed the foam filter on it un-oiled just to make this run without suffering air loss. It's running a new 3/8" X-cut chain I made to fit, in a piece of like a rock, hard maple. It's a bit of a handful for sure, but it is a blast to run as well, more than making up for it.

That's nicer stuff than aluminum tape.
