I'm assuming the saw and or parts involved are aftermarket. I seen some of the aftermarket intake rings not fit the boot as well as I'd like to see, and China intake boots that are very soft and could possibly digest a ring

For OEM saws, I've never heard of this type of failure, and that's after seeing a 038 mag that ate a throttle plate, and a 088 that digested a throttle shaft screw

How long have you had and run the saw? I wonder if it was the wrong size or deformed causing it to dislodge

Its my brothers saw, he has had it for awhile now, probably 3 years and used if for firewood every year. The thing has never missed a beat until now….

Carb screws are both still there.

Crank rod bearing?

I bent an intake ring on a 066 years ago during a pressure test. I bent it back and installed it. Obviously that was a bad idea but it was still there 4 years later when the case cracked and smoked the saw. I could see one getting sucked through but I think it’s very unlikely.
