The background here is that Gary asked me in a PM whether or not the non-lipped bearing would work in an 044. I said it should. He said he tried, but it was too thick and he had to disassemble the saw.

I am not sure what bearing or PN he actually got, but here are two Stihl 6202 based PTO side bearings.

This was the question I initially asked. ---- ( The part number for an 044 pto bearing is 9523 003 4275 . I have a 9523 003 4278 on hand and was told it was same bearing and would work on my 044 build? Your advice! )

@Gary Courtney
Gary in this pic the 4278 'appears' to be wider than the 4275, is this actually the case?

Here's the 4278 I was sold as a replacement for the original 4270.

I don't remember which is which, but I've used both 440 and 460 pto side bearings in 044 rebuilds, and they both worked. At the time, the 460 bearing was significantly cheaper than the 440 bearing...

They are the same thickness.

They are indeed!....It had me baffled!.....Was an assumption on my behalf that 4278 was actually wider base on the pics in this thread.

Wonder why Stihl supplied me 4278 instead of 4275?
