I recently got 2 Stihl 026 saws in my shop for repairs. When I started working on them I noticed both were running 8 pin .325 sprockets. I run my MS260 and 346xp/350's with 7 pin. Is this something Stihl did on the older saws or probably customer installed?

I doubt Stihl did that.
My money's on the owner's influence.

I was thinking that. I was wondering why he would want that on a stock 50cc saw.

Nothing wrong with it if it works for what you are doing. I was just curious about it.

I've ran .325x8 rims on lots of 50cc saws, works great on small wood..what's wrong with that ?
I never said there was somethin wrong with that. Just had the image in my head it was an average homeowner who did the switch.
Little 50cc saw with nutz deserves a 8 pin.

I don't even know what made me think that. Not myself today. My mind's preoccupied waiting all day for my Dolmar to show up.
Now delayed till tomorrow.

8t .325 is about the same size as 7t 3/8. I'd be scratching my head if I found a 8t 3/8 on there.

Stihl offers OEM rims in 8T .325.

It’s certainly possible it could have been ordered that way by the purchaser. Not sure why small-spline 8T rims would be produced by Stihl if they didn’t want them to be used on their saws.

As stated above, an 8T 325 is around the same diameter as a 7T 375 rim. So for limbing it’s certainly reasonable. I actually own an OEM .325 metric sized bar that’s around 14.5” and is 3003 mount as well-it’s a great little limbing bar.

What if the guy is an above average homeowner and owns a couple houses ? What rim would he run ?

I haven't seen a 375x8 for mini spline on stihl saws.

But I haven't looked either.

I don't think there is, but they do offer a variety to choose from as seen on the parts diagrams. I think I saw a 9t .325 listed for the 461, which is slightly bigger than 8t 3/8.

I never saw a Stihl one either. Don’t think they exist OEM, but Dansko makes them in any configuration.

Danzco? Years ago Oregon made them as well.

Oregon made them for mini spline ?

I saw 375x8 in small spline, but never mini which is proprietary to stihl.

Sorry I was thinking of the small spline.

The guy that owns these two saws actually has several homes as renal properties. That's funny you said that!
