Had a customer come to me today with a running saw but when you put it in wood it doesn't have much grunt. It was built by another person but I don't know where to start. It has decent compression and carb tunes fine but I was wondering if these saws are normally a little in the doggy side? I ran another customers 021 and it doesn't impressmuch either. Just wondering if these are normally doggy???

Brian what chain setup is it running, 3/8 picco or .325? The 021 should have the LP setup and even then they are a limb saw at best IMHO.

It's running low pro but doesn't look like safety chain. I am leaning toward it being fine just not a powerhouse. He was told a 025 top end was put on it but I am leaning toward it being an aftermarket kit but does as well as oem since I have both in the shop. Just hate seeing a customer not satisfied. funny thing is an old 009 will spank it in a cut.

If it has an 025 top end I bet it is a dog, the 025 has a longer stroke, so an 025 top end on an 021 crank and rod would have very low compression.

A friend gave me a nice 021 with a 14" bar. That little saw still impresses me, for it's size, and starts easy. I could cut all the firewood I need with that little saw if I had too. That was the only saw he had for many years for firewood cutting. It screams through small wood with no issues. Of course it's not going to pull a longer bar/chain like my ported 372 and 660.
