Finally opened up an old birch stump I got from the city as it’s roots were growing into the sewer lines. It has some heart rot so I knew there was going to be some character inside. Made the first cut and I’ll finish it off later this week, but seeing the spalting and color made me excited to keep going on it. 5E9EA079-625F-4FB2-BB7C-A6A5EB9023AF.jpeg0F9FACFC-61E0-4B89-A1E9-A08C12EA46C7.jpeg

"Neighbor" about 12 miles away down some squirrely goat trails had a large multi-trunk California Laurel (a.k.a. Oregon Myrtle) taken down. Long story short, I went over to get a few pieces to mill. Major workout.

45 degree slope. Bigger wood than he said. Only brought my small saw. Got 2x 20" logs and one about 12" in my Taco. Hopefully something good is in there. If so will go back for more.
