Tractor wouldn’t start with the key or move when it was running from jumping the starter. Maybe neutral wasn’t the problem yesterday. The ignition switch spun in the tin and twisted the harness around. It would smoke from the dash when you cranked it but once it stopped smoking I wasn’t brave enough to dig in. Half the harness still needs replacing but it works again.

Yes, drum with hammers!
28 of them, at a 165cm work width.

I've got a six foot Mott brand flail .I use it behind a 1951 Ferguson TO 20 that has a big bore kit .Stuff up to around 1 foot high is not a problem but two feet tall stuff really taxes the available power .To keep it from over heating I'm often forced to cut maybe 4 feet wide .The mower should be on at least 40 HP but the good old Fergie even with a big bore is only around 25-27 HP .

6ft seems a bit wide for the available power source You are utilizing.
I got mine recommended by the manufacturer, 165cm/5.4ft - my tractor is in the 40ish HP power range.
My tractor seems happy enough at 1200-1400 rpm, either second or third slow (out of five).
But the mulcher wants more rpm to work better and it is closer to 1400-1600rpm at the tractor engine to get the desired PTO rpm.

My mulcher features a back door mainly for maintenance and cleaning, but also to pop open when dealing with dense and high vegetation - even says so in the manual.

I despise electrical problems. I had to change out the key switch on my tractor last fall. Had to call in a real tractor guy to diagnose it. Best $50 I ever spent.

I despise this tractor most days. I wanted to try to pull a poplar log up the hill. That turned into a two hour saga. It has 7900 hours on it and the previous owner’s mechanic hacked everything possible on it.

I feel your pain. I have three old tractors and it’s a fantastic month when all three are running.

This one has been good most of the time but 2wd and no loader really limits it. It is priceless for moving trailers and log splitters around. The cops want to fuss about four wheelers and side by sides on the road so I drive this at 7 mph to the neighbors. I finally got my wife a “nice” car and that’s a chore keeping it going at 94k miles. I’m buying a used scanner next week so I can do relearns. That’s going to be close to $1000 for just that. I’d get a horse but it’ll probably break a leg.IMG_7419.png

My dad had just bought and finished going through one of those exact tractors, turf tires and all, that he gad gotten to mow areas too rough for the lawn mower but too small for the big tractors, but he passed away before he ever used it much at all. It's a little bit of a pain in the butt for me to get my long legs folded on and off of it, but I'd like to get it in service to help keep up with the place.

The bush-hog he had for it is way too heavy for it; I need to get some weight on the front of it. How much weight do you reckon is on the front of yours?

A picture of the Mott which is now Alamo . In my case on a Ferguson TO 20 real tall stuff I us "snubbing chains " to hold it and cut by 18 inches off the top then later go through it set at normal height .The Fergie because of the type three point hitch can't hold it in one position but remember it's 75 years old .The worst stuff is cat tails around a pond. That makes the little 129 cubic inch engine strain .1780341048804.png

put a new trigger on ms170 that a buddy got at a garage sale for 5 bucks. i spent 10 on a trigger and had to put some gas in the jug to make it go pop but it runs pretty decent for a non adjustabld carb saw
