Hey guys,
These grinders are set up a little different than the Oregon and Oregon knock off grinders. Looking for advice on stock grinding angles. I have the head set to 25-27* right now. Thinking I want a little more undercut on the plate head. the Stihl chart is calling for 40* but that seems steep as all get out...

Thoughts? What do you guys use for a typical 72 LGX? Do you use a (+/-) 15 on the table slide too??

40 tilt on the wheel ,20-25 on top plate angle ,+ and - 15 or 20 for the side plate
so 40-25-15 for a stock type grind
little more aggressive go 40-20-20 ,
you need to adjust the slide adjuster to at least + to - 15 to get the angles right
40-10-0 or 40-10-10 is a good milling grind

10-4. I'll try those out tonight or tomorrow. 40 on the wheel angle just seems so freaking steep...

I thought the same thing ,i had an 511ax before the stihl ,you will like the stihl gray wheels once get use to the grinder ,they do not heat up the cutters like the pink ones

One of the main reasons I have two USG's now. Oregons do really well for 3/8picco or .325 but 3/8 and 404 are more of a challenge with an Oregon. Especially when you are doing as much chain as I go through. Speed of cut and cooler grinder is a huge benefit of the USG's.

Stihls 40 is the same as 50 on other grinders, they measure the opposite way on the angle.

As stated above , 40* on tha USG is 50* on everything else . Also you may want to check the angle with a digital angle finder . My data plate was off by almost 4* ,making the 40* 45-46 * instead of 50* . I learn of this from Mastermech over at FHC . His was off as well .

Sorry to dig up a fairly old post, but could you expand a bit on the part about the slide adjuster as I have a USG but I'm still not sure what you mean, I'm worried I've been doing it wrong for the last 3 months!

The adjustment on the bottom ,gives side cutter angles ,it effects the top some too ,but that's what i refer too when describing

Oh yeah I do that, however I did seem to think the other day that zero just doesn't quite seem to be actually zero on that scale, seems offset to one side somewhat. Of course it could just be the way I'm looking at the wheel

The adjustment on the table slides the vise in or out in relation to where the wheel contacts the cutter.

Like 10° tilt of file.

I only use the zero setting on milling chain to slow it's cutting speed down for smoother finishes .When you use 10 or 20 ,you have to switch to the opposite 10 or 20 when changing right to left hand cutters
