The 440 I'm working on is a little ate up above the clutch, do y"all think that I should replace the case or do you think that a piece of sheet metal JB weded over that spot would work, that's the only spot that looks bad?

It's a Florida saw and I guess those palm trees did a number on it.

I only worked on one saw out of Florida, also a 440, and the case was badly chewed up as well.

I think I would look at replacing not so much due to the damage around the clutch drum area, but more from the wear around the chain brake handle boss.

It looks like there's some intense wear there and would probably allow the brake handle to flop around.

The bottom of the case is probably half gone as well. Palm “trees” suck.
The bottom looks ok, it's just around the clutch area.

The guy passed on my offer so put up an ad looking for one, if no one has one I'll just have to pay ebay price for one.
