Just looking around for a little limb saw for my brother. And I'm wondering if this Ryobi is a redmax or not? They have striking similarities in gas cap and oil placement. The AV seems to be the same in the clutch covers look the same in the muffler shape looks the same. So does it have a Zenoah engine in it?

I know nothing of your brother, but I'd think you could get more for him than a cheap little saw.

The redmax 3800/4000 are made by Zenoah and would spank your 242xp Ted...

I'm gonna need proof of this claim.
I smell a challenge...
I know people love those little 242xp's.... I've run 2 of them and they were tuned in at 12.5-13.5k WOT and they honestly didn't impress me much. Plus they were 10.2-10.3 lbs pho and the redmax was 9.1-9.3 lbs. I mean for 10 lbs you might as well bump to a 026 and have 50cc power. Seems like the 026 fell in the 9.6-9.8lb range...???

Besides if you want a 40cc shoot out I would get the 421 Dolmar. Which after talking weight of 40cc saws is a pig at 10.8 lbs, but you get to shave 0.1-0.2 lbs after pulling the cat plate out. :D

Still like the Dolmar 100/400 series saw the best for quick limbing work. 9.7-9.9 lbs with a 14" bar and chain. Working on finding a better carb for this series to see if I can push it a little harder. Looks like a 028 carb may work... :ARMS1:

Supposedly the RY3714 above is 10lbs. There are a bunch of these on ebay right now for cheap so thinking about picking one up just to look into the internals and see what I can find out. I never did run a Redmax 4500 strato but would be curious to run one back to back with other 40cc saws.

Its not a redmax, Linyi Zhaohua Engine Machinery Co makes the cylinder, it has a ruixing carburetor, and the plastics are based off the old ryobi ry10532/gz400 strato-charged 40cc saw but this one is all made in China.

The g3800, gz380, and gz400 are all completely different saws. The g3800 is a redmax/zeoah non strato design, the gz380 is actually a Husqvarna/poulan saw in red with a clamshell engine, the gz400 is a 40cc strato-charged saw with a full metal split crankcase like the g3800 and the cylinders are interchangeable.

The gz400 easily out cuts the gz380.
The gz4500 engine is identical to 400.

The "Husqvarna"543xp is made by redmax/zenoah and the cylinders nearly identical but the xp has a different intake and strato port shape. I have the ry3714, gz400/ry10532, gz4500,and 543xp. I also have a husky 445 and a poulan 5020. My muffler modded 400 spanks them hard and so do the other two.

Just about every Chinese saw copy is a copy of a zenoah saw, g5000, g4500, g621, g3800 ect. No strato-charged copies yet. Zenoah non strato saw have g designation and stratos have gz designation.
