I have a Remington RM2510 string trimmer that is 2 years old. I didn’t empty the gas this past winter, but did have stabil in it. I’ve had problems getting it to start this year so far and looking for help. Here’s what I’ve done so far…
- Changed the gas to fresh gas 40:1
- Changed the spark plug
- Changed the fuel filter
- Cleaned the screen out on the carb – Was gunked up
- I’ve also dismantled the carb, and cleaned all the passages with a brass piece of wire. The gaskets and diaphrams all looked to be in good condition, so I just reused them. I also noticed when taking the carb apart, that there was a small ring, almost like a sealing ring, that came out of my welch plug hole. Not sure if this caused the issue or not. I did not remove the welch plug.
The symptoms are that I can get it to stutter on full choke, it’ll run for about 5 seconds on half choke, but won’t run at all without choke. There is no power, it won’t spin the string, even when trying to give it gas. I’m not sure if the carb is out of adjustment and I should just buy a new carb or if the engine has an air leak and it’s a lost cause. Thoughts, help?
