Pricing for logs to be slabbed at mill?

Planning to take a bunch of my big logs to the mill.
How to I make sure I get a fair shake?

I think everybody has hauled a nice load of logs in once. Chances are next time you'll just make firewood. Most mills don't really want to deal with the public. Hope I'm wrong for your sake, good luck.

Is it just a sawing fee Amd you keep the wood or are you selling the whole log.

He said he would do sawing fee, split the wood 50/50 with me, or buy it outright. I'm not sure what I wanna do. Most $ would be to Alaskan mill it myself, then having it slabbed, then splitting the wood, then selling...I think? But not sure how much I want to work at it and wait for it to dry. Right now I have too much to do before summer.

No, I would be doing social media, Craig’s etc.

“Local reclaimed wood” live edge slabs are super trendy here in SoCal. Few other “urban logging” mills in San Diego 2 hr west of me. LA is 4hr NW. I’m in the desert.

Mesquite value is supposed to comparable to walnut.

Im half tempted to try the same setup here. But someone bent the forks on my skidsteer so thats not gonna happen. The more I think about a forklift the better I like it. Unlimited vertical movement, easy leveling, movable rail size, and you can move the log without having to tear apart some big jig. I pulled an old carpet mover attachment for a forklift out of the scrap pile not too long ago. Made to move 2 rolls at a time. Gonna make an awesome mill

Last minute planned a trip to look at a service truck a couple hours away close to the mill. So, I whacked 3 more mesquite spars in the neighborhood and added in some I already had in the yard. Got $1000 for the load. Could make a lot more slabbing myself, firewood would be a lot of work and a waste of wood. I was in a hurry and didn’t do any board foot calcs but it was a heavy load, several thousand lbs. All dry, some cracks, pretty good grade for around here but probably not high grade elsewhere. If I had calced it out I might not be happy. I’ll see what I have remaining in the yard. Might take it to another guy and just have him mill it for me on his ‘mizer.

Big one in the middle was around 28”, 15’ish, lot of taper.
