Checking the last of the summer veggies, and low and behold a burly funky looking possum bolts out from under my woodpile, stops and mean mugs me, and commences to cut a trail into the thickets! :monoloco:
I live within the city limits, so blasting him with the 12 gauge or my .40 cal is not going to be too neighbor/cop friendly.

Will my my old trusty Daisy 880 PowerLine pellet rifle do the trick or would I fare better putting down poison?
:lily:
I don't eat them, think they're cute, or care much for their company...so any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
BTW...can't I purchase a legal suppressor for my 9mm or .40 cal??? :machinegun:

A .22cb cap will do more than a pellet rifle, with less noise.
A .22 short is your next best bet.

A friend of mine, who lives in the city, was having issues with Squirrels in his garden. I suggested .22cb caps but he was afraid of the noise. When shot side by side with my RWS M54 in .177, the CB cap was quieter.

They eat thousands of disease spreading ticks I will take the Opossums over ticks any-day. Ask someone with Lyme disease.
Yep, I'm cognizant of their diet which is pretty much anything (omnivorous) which has included some of my veggies.
I'm going to eliminate this one from the gene pool...in the bigger scheme of things he'll hardly be missed.

C B caps are quieter than my Sheridan 5 m/m too, killed a lot of stuff with the Sheridan tho.
Did some good research on .22 CB caps... a lot of satisfied customers...reviews about short range potency, accuracy, & quietness most impressive! Hmmm...:2guns::applaudit:

Read up on them...pretty impressive for backyard use.
Although the guy who said he dropped a 600 boar with a .22cb cab between the peepers is a little hard to believe!

Another vote for CB caps. The little German ones with copper cases are the best. Come in little cans. Just a beoch to chamber.

If you've got a Ruger 10/22, there is a threaded adapter made for the barrel tip. It sets on with an Allen screw and allows one to thread a standard oil filter on as a "Solvent Catch" so that minuscule amount of lubricant from the lead doesn't soil your ground.

A .22 LR is quieter than a CB cap. Just saying.

They are also the only known carrier of EPM, which is an organism that attacks the spinal cord and eventually brain of horses. I've lost one horse to it and will spare the life of no possum because of it.

I cant kill them. Meet Lucy. She is a family pet, and has been for 2 years. Best inside pet we have ever had. My wifes 3rd baby. We hand raised her from shirt pocket small.
