I have a pile of 056s that I’ve finally found a little motivation to work on. Started with cutting the base to get the squish right but what I don’t understand is how to go about lowering the jug more. With a domed piston can I cut the base and squish band and all will be good? Stock timing numbers seem pretty good. I’m thinking some slight changes with bridges and maybe fingers.

I took 010 off the base and ditched the gasket. I’m hoping that alone is enough to get comp above 180. Numbers now are as follows 105 120.5 77.

Blow down is pretty short for a big saw. I’m thinking I’ll grind the intake down a degree and bring the exhaust up to 102. I’ll leave the transfers alone. Considering doing fingers or bridges or both.

Well I ended up at 102 122 79. Let’s see what happens. Anyone think a little more timing will help? Generally seems to on a ported saw, at least that’s my opinion.

Runs pretty good. Compression feels normal so 160 ish. Has new caber rings. I forgot to advance the timing so I’m going to do that now.
Visually it’s not done. The muffler might need some work and I need to re cover a full wrap I have for it.

Advanced the timing half the key and it ran terrible. Sounded like all the mix wasn’t combusting.

Runs pretty strong. Comps at 150psi for now. I think if I did it again I should have taken a little off the band to land the intake at 79-80.

Here’s a stock one I had in the past.

Pretty good gains from porting.

I don't. Didn't run this specific saw un-ported. But that other video should give you an idea how they run stock.
