I bought this 2171 off a retired arborist who was stricken with Parkinson's. Didn't haggle, he needed the money and I was happy with the deal.
Once I started to deep clean the saw I noticed some damage to the PTO side case, and then discovered that the brake band would climb off the clutch drum when the brake was activated, so much so it had been worn away by the chain.
A strip down has revealed what I think is palm tree poison rot. The brake band is supposed to be retained by little 'tits' at several points around the drum, but mine are all gone.
So, the big question. Try and weld some knobs on each rib or re-case with Aftermarket? OEM cases are not an option down here at this point.
Any advice @markds2 @srcarr52 ?
Thanks in advance, Adam.
