Bad idea, while stronger than most starter cords, it is not abrasion resistant and will break in short order. Cord is not that expensive and is sold in most TSC, rural king, co-ops etc. Save the agravation and just get the right stuff. Good luck

Spot on.

Stens true blue is another very strong high quality recoil rope.

Would you believe this is the first starter rope I ever broke on a chainsaw? Yep, it's true. Maybe because it has so much compression, it's a built 460 compliments of Mr. Sausage fingers. When this saw kicks back it really hurts my wrist. Last week it ripped the rubber starter cord handle out of my hand and the handle whipped and hit me right in the belly. Damn near cried.

At any rate, I went to my dealer today and bought the correct cord because I did not want to give up the elastostart handle. He sold me a kevlar rope and told me if I ever break it he will give another one for free.

I've broke every brand of rope there is
I tried Paracord on a lombardini diesel
Engine
It broke first try.
The best rope I've ever bought is
True blue 4.5 I use it on 200+ comp ported saws never has broke.

Chances are that if the cord it getting ripped out if your hand, it’s because the timing is too far advanced. Happens sometimes from a sheered off flywheel key.

Here is one from my 288 that randy built. Has nothing to do with the builder. Some stuff just brakes.

Try to find cord made of Kevlar. Mean as your mother-in-law.

I have used yellow slick throw line before for pull cords, especially lawn mowers, though I have used it on chainsaws and string trimmers too. Though I prefer a good quality cord from my Stihl dealer. I do not remember having throw line break in any engine.

I tried that last year on a pressure washer......didn't last anytime. Inner cords held up, but the outer wrap shredded in no time.
