I hope this is in the correct section 🤔 . If not , please link me to the new area if moved .
I'm looking to positively ID this older Craftsman so I can start ordering parts . The serial # is gone and all I have left is the engine family ID . Is this the # I need to access the parts fiche available online ?
Thanks !

You really need the model number, which is likely to be 917. xxxx.
The engine tag gives you a time frame- around 1995.
I don't know if some RKI here on this site can use the engine numbers to figure out what you have.

You might have more luck if you provide pics of the whole saw, if anything, might be able to help narrow it down to a few options you can at least compare to some IPLs. Heck, someone might have a one of those in a parts saw sitting around willing to sell/trade/give.

I have some pics .
I already started tearing into this and found the intake manifold adapter seemingly warped and the rubber ring that goes around it is very brittle . I spent the last couple hours making gaskets that are unavailable hoping things will seal .

This gasket kit looks like it may be what works for your saw:

Found it being sold on-line through Home Depot: Craftsman Chainsaw Gasket Set 530069608 - $10.01

I think there are Poulan/Husqvarna/McCulloch saws that were basically the same saw just with different names on them. I think I remember having that carb manifold with the rubber ring on a Poulan. Here is a part on eBay that looks similar:

You guys are amazing !
@hacskaroly , that gasket set seems to have the manifold to jug gasket and the muffler gasket .
The carb to manifold gasket doesn't look correct and I haven't seen the o rings or other parts on this saw .
But for ten bucks it's worth the price .

Gaskets don't always end up the same between the original and later production runs (or aftermarket). When you get the kit, measure the hole spacing and as long as those match up you will be golden no matter what the outside looks like. Having made gaskets, the one on the right will be easier to cut because it is made of simple shapes, I could probably get that drawn out in Fusion in 5-10 minutes, where as the left one will be a bit more of a challenge. If you find that the one on the right hits parts of the saw, you can always trim down what you don't need.

The o-rings might be replacements for the fuel and oil caps. The other small ones might be part of the vent system.

It's an oldie for sure. Many of the parts are NLA from Sears, but once you have the part number for the item you are looking for, you can search online for it. Many parts are out there, NOS or used, or still available new from one of the other AYP brands (Poulan, Husqvarna, etc.)

Ordered the crank bearing and seal kit yesterday.
Bearings were good but seals were hard.
