Not so pros 4 new and without politics

Had a friend with a Tacoma like mine who needed help finding a short. Lifted the hood…o…my…he must have had 100’ of random wires in multiple colors going every which way and to points that seemed not to power anything. I just stared for a while…at least a dozen exposed ends or connectors not connected to anything.
I just closed the hood.
Need to find the pics…was probably 15yrs back.
