Last summer I bought 2 044s from Johnmn, the 10 m/m, I sold to my neighbor, he's happy.
I kept the 12 m/m one myself, it ran really well, John does good work.
That one is gone now too, actually it's still here but it wears a new Stihl Brazilion 446 piston & cyl., just got it buttoned up today, it's stock for now except for .018 squish & dual port muff, I will advance ignition, but for now it has a plug in the comp release & it pulls over hard & I am quite ancient. I wish to dupe my neighbor for a while so the 044 top cover stays on, when I get tired of pulling that beast I'll put the other top cover on with the decomp hole in it.
I didn't have to clearence the flywheel, have about .065 gap there, every thing else went just as the build threads stated.
