Do both the top and rear handles have to be removed to get to the boot? It's looking to me like it does.
Is there a decent lube that won't deteriorate the rubber handle bushings when you reassemble?
If you are replacing the boot, is it advisable to replace the impulse line while you're in there?

Sorry for these questions, but I'm having a real crappy time trying to find a video on this exact saw.

Ive done a few of these and they always seem like having a 3rd hand would be ideal. Im pretty sure the whole damn thing has to come apart to change the boot. If it doesn't i have not figured it out yet.

I use just a lil lithium grease on the bushings and it makes it so much nicer. Now if that deteriorates rubber i dont know.

For the intake boot portion, i suppose if its bad the impulse line is too or not far behind. Change it and be done. U already know these r not the easiest to work on, lol!
I got in the habit of changing all the rubber bits all at once. One and done!
Working on saws is fun, using them is
funner:D

JohnnyBlade: Thanks for the great response. I suppose I better go out and get the impulse line, too.
I love your Avatar. When I looked at it, it reminded me that I need to go eat some lunch. :p
LMAO! Not a prob. I struggled with the first ms250 i did and then learned a few tricks. I pass on what i can. Note to self, put the hammers away and take a deep breath:D

Echo uses grease inside their AV buffers, so it should be safe. I have used rubbing alcohol, it is slippery, but dries reducing the chance of a buffer slipping out. I don't know if it can hurt rubber.

Someone gave me the saw, so I haven't spent a lot of $$$ on it. Just replacing parts here and there to sweeten up the idle. So if I f&@k it up and have to pay someone to help me, I didn't lose much. All I have spent so far has been on routine maintenance parts. And bugging the crap out of my neighbor when I pick his brain.

Rip it down and replace those beat rubbers you find is best.

Don't waste time on work-arounds unless your just going right to the rubber lines. Get a wood or plastic wedge and some long needle nose pliers for line swaps to get in some test runs. You can strip that saw down in ten minutes to get at most of it for inspection and cleaning. Best to pull the clutch also and clean it out back there while your checking the wear prone bits.

Stihl also has this. Makes assembly of hoses, rubber parts much easier.

I find that using strawberry flavored KY Jelly has been known to work.
