I somehow cracked the woodruff key in the flywheel while taking it off.

Not shown in the IPL. Anyone know if they are sort of "Stihl Universal"?? It seems the MS391 doesn't show up in a lot of lists for the commonly re-used Stihl parts in all other saws. Is this the red-headed step child? or maybe I am :bash:

Thanks

It is very possible it one of those built in keys that requires the flywheel to be replaced when the key is damaged.

Just an idea. I just some close up pics - weird design... If you micrometer the crank for the width slot I bet you could make a slot in the flywheel to match and make a new key. It looks pretty wide might be able to stack 2. It if ends up with a little play so what. A 1/2 degree in timing change will not make a huge difference. If the flywheel is installed right they hardly ever move anyways. A pressure fit should be enough in the short term if you really need the saw for something.

It's just me - I like to figure out fixes for things so I am not giving money to companies that know that their parts break.
