Can I stab a conventionally adjustable carb in place of the chip controlled original?

The saw won’t idle for squat. [emoji90]

Otherwise, it starts, runs and cuts good.[emoji106]

Tecs at my favorite Stihl dealer says it’s an internal solenoid problem.

Wasn't there a secret idle mixture screw on some of these E-lec-tric tuning saws? I can recall a video from a few years back on that, but can't find one now, and I'm not well versed on that topic, nor on your actual question.

Good luck.

I know for certain that You need a "conversion kit" to revert a 661CM to regular carb, carb, coil, linkage, . . .
My best guess is that this might be the same deal with all CM saws.

And, if it bogs down in the cut, they often blame it on the coil's inability to deliver a hot spark when the saw needs it most.

Thanks fellas!

This saw was having problem pulling a 24” in green white pine. Tested it at 105 psi, so we went with a Meteor piston kit.

It starts and runs/cuts OK now but dies when you let off the trigger.

MD is Dec. 2015.

We will tinker more on him. [emoji108]

The 661 can leave the solenoid attached and run a 660 carb. I dont know if a 362 can do that. Just a hint.

I’ve found a hidden curb idle adjustment.

Socket set screw.

One can’t see it for the gingerbread in the way.

Give it a half to one full turn and try him out.

Seemed to work well. Now it will idle for a few minutes before dying.

My thought is, the end of the curb idle screw wears down from vibration closing down the throttle blade. The chip can only control the mixture but not the throttle shaft position.

Seems logical. My old, smoky diesel truck uses a throttle position screw to adjust idle speed and it needs periodic adjustment to maintain the proper engine idle speed and yes, you can see the indentations in the adjustment screws as wear happens.

I wonder if Stihl ever told their dealers about this idle adjustment. Bet you a dollar the customers were not told regardless.

All I got from the tec at my favorite dealer is “replace the carb”. That’s about a Benjamin.

I shall share my finding with John. [emoji106]

Any future purchase get carbed non-Mtrons and be done with it, here in Europe they are cheaper than the Mtrons too (362 non-CM is about 100$ cheaper than 362CM).

Yes, I know than non-Mtrons are unavailable in the US - just saying the obvious, Mtron is not always the best thing.

actually you can get the 362 with carb or mtronic here and the cost the same. I wish mine was mtronic and not regular carb but I got it cheap and it’s in nice shape.
