ms290 airfilter mod/upgrade

Id like to put a Max Flow style air filter on my 290. Cant find the thread were a guy put a 044 rear handle on one. But I'm begining to think that the powers that be are erasing search tags & forum post's...? The Air filter on the 290/310/390 suck! They are a major weak point on these Homeowner/Ranch saws!! I do 5 to 6 cords of tree length firewood each year, ea ch fill up I have clean it. I keep a can of dust off & a toothbrush its getting old! Cant I just upgrade the filter housing?? Any help would be great...

I was secretly hoping someone would bastardize an 044 tank to fit the 290.
That's one hell of an expensive adventure just to try a maxflo.

044 handle will never fit a 290, that's probably why you can't find the thread.

A velocity stack with K&N or similar filter is your only option.

Buy an extra filter. Swap when needed. Clean them both when you get home.

I've cut mountains of wood with the 1127 series saws. If you have to clean the filter at every fill up, something's wrong. Either your chain is dull or you're unreasonably particular on how clean the filter is. Has the saw been losing power due to filter obstruction?
I use a soft paint brush to whisk off some of the sawdust (takes about 10 seconds) but don't do it every tank full.

I have an early MS 390, and have never had such a problem. I am still on the original filter from 2002, and all I do when I get home is wipe it off with a nylon bristled shop brush.

8 years two filters. Compressed air and old toothbrush. Probably clean it every two trips. Yeah not the greatest design but a little better than the MS250.
