ms 261c rebuild questions

hello folks,ive got a stihl ms261c that has ate a connecting rod needle bearing.the piston and cylinder was have lite scoring but my main concern is splitting the saw to change the crank.can a guy do this without special tools and is there anyplace you can buy good used cranks?the damn things here in canada ar $400.00 bucks.

You might be talking about the needle cage, part #9512 003 2334, in which case you do not need to split the case and replace the crank shaft.

But, you do have to remove the cylinder and piston to get to it.

I probably have a good crank but I’m not sure how international shipping works. I can see if the husqvarna splitters fit the case tomorrow.

Cases can be split and reassembled with a heat gun, rubber hammer and patience.
The special tools make it easier, but it can be done without them.

well redline4 ive got a heatgun and a soft mallet and since im in no rush i can walk away from it for awhile if the job really sucks. lol i really hate to toss stuff away if it can be fixed at a reasonable cost plus working on a project is better then watching the tv/idiot box.

I paid $80 USD for the husqvarna one. If the quality is similar it’s worth it. I didn’t get a chance to see if it will fit the 261 case.

If I have a crank it’s $55 just to ship a medium flat rate box to Canada.
