It's totally a 038 mag mechanically speaking. But plastics are different, flippy caps and a decom was added.

That eBay clone is missing the Stihl label on the brake flag. Not that those stickers are infallible, but it's a tell tale sign.

Bucking spike was installed upside down is all that was wrong with it. [emoji23]

By no mean insulting you, ms381 is only available in areas with less emission control, so EPA never ever know this model.
Your question is dumb.
And the Chinese is copying the ms381 from the begining.

Thinking about it doesn't do much about how it might perform or hold up on my sawmill. 460 is it's nearest competitor right here now or my CS 670. 460 Lacks in oil usage.... shines in the bearings and carb department. Coin fixed the oil issues. I don't like having issues.
You better be tough to survive Appalachian hardwoods. Aussie hardwood are
038's idk....

380 or 381 has had no known issues on the South American saws. All good.

The reason why 038 mag and ms381 were widely sold in South america, asia and Australia is due to the nature of the timber being very hard and they suited for that kind of cutting. 046 and 460 are good saws too but they have more revs and got less low end torque
