This is what I'm working on. A Mcculloch PowerMac 6. The obligatory fuel leaking issue. It's a buddies grandpa's saw. Wants it to just run. So I've come up with a more permanent solution to the design for the rubber plug to the carb. That's all fine. I'll write up with pics what I did when its done. Tge problem I'm having is that it idles and slowly dies. I bought a carb kit for it. Replaced everything I can. Still does it. It dies seem to flood a bit. Leaning towards fuel metering lever. The old one seemed to be bent up pretty high. The one in the kit was smashed into the carb body. So my question. Was this to be level with the cab body or with the gasket on? My Google isn't finding anything. 20201029_165428.jpg

Level with the body without the gasket. The MDC carburetors are somewhat notorious for failed check valves, could be your issue. You will find the check valve under that retainer and screen circled in red.
