I found this at a job site. He’s saying $500 to $1000. The hitch is cut off so a conveyor could go under it. The predator did start and die. He’s saying $500 as is or $1000 if it runs. Is this worth the $500 as is?

500 is probably an ok deal. Those are like 3k new. I'd check over the beam where the wedge slides for wear. It might have a ton of hours in it if it's been repowered.

It’s a pool place that did firewood over winter and beat the crap out of everything. I got a 35 ton countyline today for $200 that they left the air filter cover off and filled the engine with water. That’s things beat but the hydraulic fluid looked good. This doesn’t look like it has a ton of hours on it. It just looks like no one cared about it. The original Honda engine is sitting next to it and pulls over good. I tried to buy the Honda and he kept telling me I don’t want it.

Splitter and old Honda motor for $500?
Relatively easy rebuild on a bulletproof motor.
I assume you have a welder or can otherwise add a hitch.
Is that plumbed for a lift? I see 2 sticks…

It has a log lift. He’s not giving up the old Honda for some reason.

Here is the update. $200 countyline needs an engine. Predator 301cc is a direct swap for $250. If it has major issues after the swap the 301cc can go on my homemade that the 212 isn’t enough for. Got the rugged split for $500. I didn’t realize it until I got home that they bent the beam with the log lift. Beat that flat and added fuel. It runs the cylinder in and out but not under load. The fluid level is low. Grabbed 15 gallon of fluid to see what happens tomorrow.

For $500, I would buy it, sell the motor, and put a new one on (Honda, Kohler, or predator, whatever I could afford, it doesn't matter). The log lift alone is worth $500 imo.
It already has a year old predator put on that luckily only needed fuel

$500 seems ok, you would likely pay that just for the hydraulics.

The rugged split works great after adding hydraulic fluid. I notched and laid a piece of 2x3 tube flat for the tongue. I think it’ll work. I was going to butt weld to the existing tongue but it’s not a normal 2x3.

It’s done and home. I couldn’t get air in the one tire and it went completely flat on the way home. Tomorrow morning I gotta drop the wheel off and see if I ruined the tire. The valve stems turned to tar from the hydraulic being all over them I’m guessing.DE6DC6A5-A4B1-4A02-A381-3A80302FFA0C.jpeg

Talking log splitters is like what oil ratio and brand of mix oil .Many debates about same ,Now some facts .Most splitters use 3,000 pound hydraulics and most hyd pumps are factory set at 2750 .For example at 2750 PSI a 4 inch cylnder is around 17 ton and a 5 inch close to 26 ton .To reach the tonnange they are advertised would take 4,000 pound hydraulics exceeding the ratings of the components .In other words they lie .Of all of them made "timber wolf " is one of the few that are honest .They rate their 5 inch models at 22 tons .
As far as engines sure Honda makes a danged good engine but any engine will work .An 8 HP used Briggs engine with a 16 gallon per minute will suffice nicely .If you get on Graigs list they can be bought relatively inexpensive .My home built has an 11 HP Briggs I bought for $200, electric start and a 5 inch cylinder .
