I know the season is almost here so if you get some good camera shots, let us all see and hear the wild game story.DSCF2076.JPG This stud just wanted to fight. He could of cared less about girls. I worked him for over an hour until I took my box call and turned it upside down and shook it to get one of the worst gobbles i ever heard but he didn't care he and two more come runnin. And he had battle scars all over. But fun.

Nice bird, I will try to get you a pic. I have been turkey hunting all my life, but I can say that I have never hunted in the spring. We have had turkey dogs since long before my day and have had good luck with them. Irish setters and English setters were the best.

How do you hunt with dogs in the spring? I can see in the fall to break up the flock but how in the spring. I love to hear that gobble getting closer and closer. One time and you are hooked. Saysme. LOL

We never hunted in the spring here, always fall with dogs, break the flock up then go back in the evening to yelp.

My bad. I should be in bed but i can't sleep.

Here are a few beards that grandpa saved over the years. All these beards were taken in the late 1800's and early 1900's and I still save them today. ( pics coming )

[QUOTE="Junior Samples, post: 637235, memberCome on lets hear one story.[/QUOTE]

Lots of stories, one is that a guy that used to run hounds with me back in the early 80's, his fathers radio handle was BR 549, he is almost 90 years old now. ( good times back then )

edit. I have had many dogs in my life and I miss every one of them!

Here's a pic of some of the birds that hang around our house. The largest group we've had was more than 60 birds. During the winter, I go through about 50lbs of food a week, feeding these guys.

Very nice. I'm going to give turkey a try this year, my father in law is making some blinds on our place. They roost on a ridge behind my house. I hope we get a rifle season for turkey someday, that would be sweet.
You will be hooked I am sure. And I know from reading your reloading threads, your one of the few that can use a rifle. Lol Just to watch them looking for a fight is awesome. I just hope you don't harvest a monster the first time. It took me years of Jakes till I finally downed a monster. I will be jealous. Keep us posted. And don't move. Lol.

Thanks for the compliment. Unfortunately, I am much better at making ammo than shooting it! Probably use my Remington 870 20 gauge with turkey choke. In West Virginia you are allowed to use a rifle, may have to travel over there someday. I have a sweet .30-30 load that would be ideal: 113 grain lead flat point at 1560 fps, basically a hot .32-20 WCF.

Spring Turkey hunting is about as much fun as you can have with your clothes on. The first time a big Tom sneaks in quietly behind you and gobbles, you'll be hooked..............you'll also have to change your drawers.
