Sup crew!

First time tearing down a 201cm rear handle today. Looking to flap with the wise ones here on theory with this little tiny ripper.

I know they are fairly tapped out from the factory, but there is always room for improvement.

Here’s where I’m at;

high flow filter system
stock filter is a joke, crazy restrictive for the flow of this jug in my view. I’ll have some pics of my solution in about 1.5 weeks just waiting on some items to arrive. Should be clean and OEM fit

Timing advanced
3.5* as this is a 2019 build saw and I believe timing was advanced somewhere along the production run. My stock flywheel had a half sheared key from the factory [emoji43] any input on this, or secret sauce?

Muffler - the usual

Here’s some things I’m curious about;

Stock intake plate:
This sits under the air filter and seems to do a 180* shift then tunnel into the carb. I’m curious if Stihl designed this in CAD in order to increase air speed, similar to a velocity stack - or is it for emissions and air mixing?
I’ll snap some photos tomorrow.

Base gasket:
Stock base gasket squish - 0.0265”
Stock base gasket thickness - 0.019”

I swapped to a thinner paper gasket to achieve a squish of 0.0175” squish which I hope will be ok on the little 35cc saw

Has anyone played with raising the exhaust roof a bit or playing with any timing numbers? Would love if someone could share some ideas / constructive content [emoji1591]

That plate behind the filter looks like it’s a spitback baffle. You could probably open it up a little on the sides without it spitback soaking the filter.

Nice work, they are good running little saws even in stock form.
I've owned 3 of them and a bunch of 200's, few 193's and a few 192's. They all do we with a little timing advance and a muffler mod(which is pretty much just removing the spark arrestor on the 200's).
Have you done anything more since the video above.

Agreed with you big time!

Here’s my filter mod - this made a huge difference in the saw - the stock filter I could hardly breathe through

This is a universal 80ppm UniFilter cut and bonded to the stock filter assembly with a foam safe adhesive - I used a blade to cut out the stock paper panels on the top then bonded the foam to the plastic skeleton - fits perfectly

The stock assembly is very well sealed on these saws IMO - so not concerned about debris

Saw holds a higher RPM sun the wood after this mod

I port a good many 201 and actually have a 201c ordered for myself, my favorite 30cc saw on the market, they really are little zippers! Love this thread.

So good! Any advice for me on some baseline numbers to try out?

Never used of these or a T model.

What length bar will it pull in stock trim for hard woods?

Normal .325 or 3/8s low pro?
