Hey, got a mower with a Kohler KT745. One plug looked ok, other was brand new. Said engine was blown, not worth fixing Piston on right side does not move. Did not get a readable compression reading on left side. Spark seems ok on both. Fuel system seems ok.

Compression release on these?

Any known issues ? It is in a Husqvarna zero turn with 54" deck. Have nothing in it. Just wondering if worth rebuild or swap engine out? Thanks!!!

Mower has 180 hours on. Have seen they updated the rods on these. Will dig in to more tomorrow.

Just get a used vtwin engine from somewhere. I am not a fan of the 7000 kohlers. Just make measure the shaft and start looking. The biggest issue on motor swaps is exhaust. I just replace a kawasaki with this briggs. Had to cut new holes and patch old inlets in the muffler to get it to work but it turned out great!

It is very possible it was ran without oil. I repaired one back in the Spring where one of the heads was warp and it was blowing oil out. The customer didn't was bad enough to fix so didn't report the problem when he brought it in for service but went ahead and repaired the problem but he forgot to add oil and lost the engine.

I had a similar condition, but no stuck piston - engine runs but low on power. Pulled the right plug wire and engine stops, pulled the left plug wire and nothing happens. Right spark plug looks normal - brown porcelain and all - left plug looks brand new (it was changed last fall). Right compression reads 150 psi, left compression reads 3 psi.

Removed the left valve cover - the set screw that locks the intake rocker arm clearance had fallen out and the loose rocker arm fell off the push rod so the intake valve (was not stuck - I could bounce it by hand) was not operating while running. I found the setscrew and reset the rocker arm - now it runs like a deere.

I just did a Kawasaki FR691V motor job. Had to replace one head, bore out one cylinder, new piston and some other minor stuff. Grand total was still under 1/2 price of replacing the engine completely.

If you can handle waiting for 2 months for a piston…..
