I have a Kohler engine that will crank but won't start. The engine had a bad head gasket, so I changed the gasket, lapped the valves, and did a general cleanup of the head. I also installed new lifters since I had the head off. After all of the work was completed, I had 75# compression. The valves were moving and everything else seemed fine. The motor will not start. It is getting fuel, spark, compression, and the timing key is intact. I am at a loss on this one. Any advice?

Did you try a new spark plug? Many people check for spark by pulling it out of the head and grounding it.If it sparks, they're satisfied. But that doesn't tell you what's going on when the plug is trying to fire under compression.Sometimes they won't.

Also,a failing coil can do the same thing.
