Hey Gang!

So, I am finally about to get to my J’red CS2149 conversion to a 346 Xp NE OEM piston and cylinder, and I was trying to figure out the best muffler and carb combination for it.

I am planning on a base gasket delete, but I just cannot afford any port work and I don’t have the tools or the money to get the tools to port it correctly myself.

If someone reading this might consider a trade to do some port work, that would be awesome. I am going to list some items I have in the parts section of the classifieds (excellent used fuel tank with screw on gas cap for an 064 and 066) demo saw parts, brand new chain on rolls, lots of other stuff as I think of it.

I am wondering what carburetor I should try to get for it (or leave it stock) and what kind of muffler mod I should look at for a non-ported engine.

As Joe said, a 198 is a great upgrade for a stock 346NE. As far as muffler just get a non catalyst type and put a second port on the clutch side, she’ll be breathing nice.

Like Onan said, 359 intake tract is an easy upgrade. Not very expensive. For the muffler just add a second port with deflector on pto side. Just gotta make sure to put it in correct spot so it dont hit case or burn top cover. Does your muffler have baffles in it or just a hollow can? With base delete, swapping to 359 intake tract, muffler mod, and bump the timing a hair they wake up pretty good. Will it keep up with a ported saw, no but it still will be a fun little saw.

@t4driller how much advance have you seen them tolerate?
Not much. Like 5 degrees. Sometimes a hair more. It does help with throttle response though. I tske a swipe or 2 with file and check it. Keys are cast in so you csnt just grab another key like on stihls.

Running a 199 on one of my 346's. It can be a little touchy to tune but I like it.

Adding a second port to the muffler definitely wakes them up. Just do whatever you have the tools for. A simple hole out the front will work even if it's not real classy.
