I was gifted a 394 XP that is short a couple minor items and one major one, that being the carb. The saws serial number isn't legible so I don't know the exact year.
Where can I source a new carb and do I need a wj 39-1, wj 70-1 or wj 71-1?
Not sure of the difference and I don't have the old one to compare.
Is there even a source for these or do I need to do a 395 conversion and if so what carb would I be looking for.
My first post so thanks in advance.

WJ-39 and I believe WJ-71 are the factory carbs for the 394 and would be a drop-in type installation. The 395 carb can be adapted but it takes some work.

It looks like you've got a top cover mount/screw hole badly wallowed out.

The WJ70 from a DA100 engine will also fit. The stock WJ71 was an EPA carb that had limiter cap adjustment screws.

A 395 carb HS298, HS300 have a shorter throttle shaft so the cable pulley off the side of the carb is around 3/16" to the right of the 394 entrance which binds the cable.

I see a few WJ70/71's for the DA100 engine on ebay for around $100. Best price I can find for a drop in carb.

Do you know if those carbs for the DA100 have the internal impulse port?
