I was talking with a guy at Laser Sales head office today and Oregon started moving all of the Carlton chain manufacturing starting two years ago. They've been slowly moving the tooling over to China. Oregon is still making all of their brand chain in the US except for LP chain which is now made in China.
I've bought Laser chain (Carlton) over the last couple of years but don't see any difference in quality.

Sorry to see more jobs heading for China especially with the way China is taking such an aggressive stance on human rights and aggression towards their neighbors.

This is right up there with “why do you buy that Chinese crap at Walmart?”

For the most part because if you go pay twice as much somewhere else it’s still the same Chinese crap

Sadly there are so many products where there is no American equivalent anymore

There are some people who simply refuse to buy foreign goods but there aren’t enough of them out there

Until enough people are willing to take a stand I’m afraid nothing will change

It’s hard for most folks these days to make ends meet even shopping at Walmart

They can’t be expected to “buy American” at the expense of food and rent

The last time I talked to a rep the A1 was being made in Brazil & imported thru Canada under the Laser name. I believe that was about a year ago. The fella said they had moved some production to china but didn’t plan on moving everything there… Sounds like the South Americans are losing out to china also.

A bit deceiving if you don’t look closely at the labels.

You have to wonder how they can get away with that

Confusing as well as misleading

@JimBear sent me several of each of these chains about a year and a half back

The Lazer is Carlton A1 as well despite what the bag says

Neither package has ANY indication of country of origin that I could find

That is strange. Customs is usually very fussy about that

I have to assume the box that the individual packages were in would have to have been marked with place of origin

The last time I looked the individual packs my Archer chain came in had zero indication of country of origin as well

What's really disappointing is that unless you buy Oregon chain (except LP) no one else is making chain in NA anymore.

Oregon box

But even that doesn’t mean much

It could be 90% made in China and sent here to be spun into loops and then it can me marked as Made in USA

I am NOT saying it is

Just an example

I worked in a twin plant setup for years in El Paso and saw that first hand

My brother owned clothing businesses there and they would get a pair of womens underwear from Mexico that was completely sewn in Mexico, they would sew on a bow or something, and then sew in a Made in USA tag

I have actually seen a few where the goods were totally made elsewhere and packaged in a box made in USA. Guess what it said on the box? Made in USA.

Gee, that’s not sketchy at all…
