Would some of the fine gentlemen on this forum be able to explain how this ignition works?

It's from an 015l.

I tore it down to here and don't know what to do. I've seen updates for this old style ignition but it sparks just fine.
However, I have to use the choke to kill the engine.

It seems much more complicated than the new saws that only use a coil.

Just an old style points ignition system. If it is sparking just fine, then the problem is not in the ignition system itself (corroded contacts, blown capacitor) - it is in the grounding out of that system when you hit the kill button/switch.

Find the kill switch and work your way back, maybe there is a break in the wire or the switch is corroded.

I sure appreciate yalls help.
I will try cleaning up the area around the switch and wire. It was working fine up until last weekend so I'm hoping it may be as simple as that.

The black slide just depesses the spring to touch a nub, which grounds the ignition out{If memory serves me correct}. Just buff all of the parts with emory cloth.
