...which one?

I think the only "hole" in my lineup is a good, or "pro" 50cc...

Stihl 026 PRO. Hard to find because the owners love them. I sold one to a friend for $100 below the $350 suggested retail and threw in two backup chain loops. He's crazy about it. I kept my other one. Whale of a saw. Just MHO.

I second the motion for the MS261.

I have and run 026s, mainly for sentimental reasons, but when I am working and a 50cc will do the job, the 261 is what I reach for.

I won't go to the woods without it. If it crapped out today, I'd stop by my dealer and buy another immediately before I headed to cut wood.

Stihl knocked it out of the park with this one. I love my 026s, but they don't come close to the 261...

A well ported 026/260 is no joke. I like the balance and handling better(smaller footprint, and it feels lighter in my hands) and will grab it over my 261 any day of the week, yes the 261 has superior AV, but most of my saws are 2 series Huskies, so the 026 is fine by me... Lol

I have a burned out 2018 Stihl MS261c-m sitting on my bench in need of a complete top-end rebuild. Owner claims it was never straight gassed. Piston, rings, and cylinder are all shot. No compression remains. Cylinder has the slanted cooling fins, supposedly the latest technology, and, of course, it's M-tronic.

Probably has an air leak

Where? Perhaps the crank seals, but those seldom fail on a professional saw that is this new. I think it was straight-gassed or it just plain wore out while trying to pull a 20" bar and chain.
Do they have a boot between carburetor and cylinder.

Yes, and that could be where the air leak emerged. However that is rare for OEM parts that are this new. I will check that. But, it's not even easy to reach that boot with a knife. Frankly, Kenneth, I am just as perplexed about this engine failure as you and the owner are.
