So I'm looking for information on where to buy our how to make chain for cutting ice. I've seen external oilers also, so any information would be great. Thanks

I'd think angles along the lines of a milling chain, say 10 degrees, and probably semi chisel would be your best bet for ice.
I see them with a grease gun mounted by the top handle with the hose connected down by the clutch cover, but never knew where the grease was actually being applied to.

Going to do some sturgeon spearing?

No, it's going to be for when I have to cut my boat out of the ice in the spring.

I know that tv is portrayed as true, and I know no different. I'm referring to that series Bering gold in Alaska, I thought the water lubed the chain, well that’s what they said no oil and the water lubed the chain...? I don’t remember about angles of teeth

Edit ...I guess if you use canola oil. You get the lube you may want and it’s biodegradable.
As for the teeth semi chisel would be better.

I,m sure there’s lots of info out there. ;)

Ran my 260 and 200T all day with the oil pump shut off and veg oil in the tank. Cutting in the lake for hours and hours with a cheap Oregon b+c. Used a half tank of oil after many tanks of fuel. Your problem will be temps below freezing. Try some pink RV antifreeze in your oil tank. Should work great imo. None glycol type like the pink stuff. Glycol is poisonous and will work like cutting oil on steel to steel contact. Don't use vehicle coolant.

I'll probably be cutting 24-36" thick ice, and some distance. I'm just looking to use my time now to save me some later.

If the ice is still that thick, what are you going to accomplish by cutting the ice around ur boat. Doesn't sound like it will be able to go anywhere once you cut around the boat. Not asking to be a dik, truly curious.

Cutting around the boat will leave a hefty ice breaker hull of ice for plowing through the rest of the ice. Or maybe he has an air boat?

If I had a bubbler in there that would be the best. I'm just looking for a way to cut ice faster than I have in the past. Need to give myself enough room to wiggle, that's all. I've used canola before, I just didn't get it all flushed out of the system and it turned to snot, and that was not fun cleaning.

So far, change the angle to about 10°, use semi chisel. What about depth? How aggressive can one go?

And it had a grease zerk installed in the clutch cover. The pump grease while the chain is spinning slowly and run no oil when cutting. The grease will stay on the chain snd not sling off in the water.

Not much detail on the chain but here are some professional ice sawyers.

I'd be very happy with that speed. [emoji4]

Another question, what about .404 vs 3/8? What are people running?
