I have taken a liking to Stihl 066's.
I now have 3 of them.
I also have a ported 026

So finances are a bit tight and the wife "commented" on the fact that I bought a chainsaw to save money on buying firewood, and why did I now need 5 of them?
Fair point I guess.

So the Stihl 039, that was my first saw, that I painstakingly rebuilt got advertised and I sold it today.

He was a young fella.
Asked if it was an XP model.
I said, no..... its a Stihl
"Oh" he said, my last saw was a Husqvarna and the XP gave it more power.
I said "Well this is a Stihl and it goes good"

I rolled a foot thick round onto the lawn and let him give it a run.
It cut like a champion, as always.

He said:
Well it cuts better than my 345 and it was a 20" saw as well. (I shuddered at the fact that I was about to sell my beloved saw to someone who classified saw size by bar length)
I asked what happened to his 345 and he said it blew up trying to cut big timber with it.

I took his cash and watched my saw leave to a certain, painful death.
After all the work that went into making it great, it was painful to watch it go.

I was a great saw but I dont think I will ever regret selling it.
If i ever want a mid sized saw again, I will probably chase an 044, but for a bloke cutting firewood, there is not much that cant be done with an 026 and a couple 066's :2guns:

My condolences:crybaby2:to have a quality saw that has a personal touch, go to a below average saw user..... ugh.
I am trying to pull the pin and make the decision to sell a couple saws. For some strange reason, I keep coming up with excuses not too:eusa_whistle:

Did you try to sell it here first?

One thing works well for glued gasket surfaces is silk string. Apply loctite gasket maker and let it start setting up and use silk string on every need to be sealed area it will squish flat were needed and fill a void or light warp. It's a aviation engine trick

I sold the very first saw I ever rebuilt. Didn't bother me a bit. Shihl made a gazillion 440's.

esSW has a valid point. The logic involved with selling a saw has to include "can I replace this saw easily if I sell it?" and with an 039 the answer is yes. There's a half bajillion of them out there and any 1127 series saw can become one so if you feel remorseful and miss your lil buddy, you can clone him and be happy again.
The only saw I have I wouldn't sell (out of 50+) is an 026 my dad bought for me. Not because it's such a great saw, (which it is) but because of the connection between me and the saw and him. I have a number of saws that "aren't for sale" but it wouldn't bother me to sell them if I needed to.

Yeah I always found the excuses too.
But to be honest, with 3 x 066's, the 039 was never getting used again.
Will probably sell an 066 too

Will keep the 026, the best of the 2 066's and the redlight will not be praised from my dead stiff hands!
Think about what your saying! Sell a 066?
Blasphemy!

Yeah I will probably keep all 3 066's
The red light is going to be tastefully restored, the 066 I have built on the weekend is a result of all the best parts from 2 saws, and the third will be the rough one using all the beat up parts.

It will make s good spare/2nd saw to carry with me when cutting wood.

I will just need a good P&C for it cause I don't like the Chinese one it has.

To be honest, with the criminal price of OEM parts in Australia, it would be cheaper to buy a 2nd saw as a parts saw than buy parts as you need them

It is over $200 for a chain sprocket cover, almost $400 for piston, rings and bits, throw in new AV mounts, hoses, $90 for a clutch, and a few other bits and pieces and you have an $800 parts bill for a freshen up on a saw that probably cost you less than that.
