I can't be the only person who started a saw without tightening the clutch properly, then starting the saw and watching that little drum sitting on the concrete spinning at high RPM's spitting sparks... I kept bumping it back with my boot every time that it started to move... I laughed pretty hard at myself.
Have a good day everyone!

The clutch driver stayed tucked into the drum very nicely until they had stopped spinning. I even found the needle bearing that slipped off the crank and it hadn't disintegrated.

yes. you are the only one...

and I never ever put a chain on backwards either....:applaudit:
liar... ;)

if they are reverse thread I just hit them lightly with my 18v makita impact and then put the bar on... bury in wood immediately upon starting. Locks it in tight.

I've got some clutch covers that look like something funky must have happened under there.

My worst starting experience was with a monster Stihl 084 with a brand new top end that I had just installed. I had the chain brake on and forgot that I did and started the saw. I revved the engine and started to smell the chain brake burning up before I woke up and released it. These 084 engines are so strong that they can burn a chain brake right up. Luckily, nothing caught fire but it smelled like something burned up. I carried it back to the shop and cleaned it up a little, checked all the components and all I found was a scorched case. It still runs today.

Loggers love bucking with these beasts because they don't bog down much. Just place on top of log with .404 chain and a 3' bar and let the big dog eat.
