If you take care of your equipment and do proper maintenance, they last a long time. Anything that moves, metal to metal, metal to plastic, will last longer also with a little lubricant, even the lowly deck gauge wheels will last a long time.

This, 100%. I take a squirt can of motor oil and give a splash to anything that might have metal to metal friction on my machines every time I change the oil. You would be amazed at what a difference it makes. For example, after oiling the steering gear and linkage on my little Murray RER I can turn it with one finger. Quite impressive considering I weigh 285.
