A friend of mine asked me to take a look at his Husqvarna 55. When you try and tighten the chain, the chain tensioner screw tries to walk out of its slot behind the plate and binds up on the saw’s bar before the chain gets tight. Its binds so tight that it stops you from turning the screw. I have attached a couple pictures of the chain tensioner and saw. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.39FD119D-5D70-4D13-82B0-3D26E8AE9642.jpeg 4E44008B-E1A1-420E-9E46-EA78A1D2DE88.jpeg 401E6482-AE0F-451C-B656-4D3532B96053.jpeg 437DC9DC-6CB0-4BA9-857D-3F7A35D87CD3.jpeg

I think the stud may be on backwards from the adjustment screw if I'm recalling correctly.

Yes, bar plate was on and fastened with its allen head screw.

Stump, im not following what you mean when you say that the stud of on backwards from the adjustment screw.

Maybe remote, but does the owner make sure the pawl is located in the adjust hole in the bar before he puts the cover on?

I wondered the same but have put the bar on multiple times myself with the same result.

A conical pawl is actually kind of dumb.

If the clutch cover is a bit loose when it's snugged up it may have a tendency to push the bar towards the cover and slip in behind the bar. It would be more likely to do that if it didn't project very far into the bar adjuster hole.

Any chance the owner hit that with a file or a grinder to make it easier to locate the pin in the hole?

I think i just figured it out. Had one of them epiphany moments. I bet he either has the wrong chain or an overly stretched chain on the saw and is simply running out of adjustment. I bet the tensioner screw is only binding when the bar tail contacts the rear stud at the end of the bar’s adjustment range. I will find another chain tomorrow and check it out.
