I found a new project! I was watching this on ebay and when the seller unexpectedly shot me a very low private offer, I took it.

I like the white top, I like the metal brake flag, I don't like the open transfers and coarse thread clutch.

I don't know what direction I'm going to go yet, it's a non runner so I need to check everything out first.

Pics are from seller, I don't have my hands on the saw yet.

Good reliable saws, they won’t break any records it always get the job done. Plus easy to work on.

I'd like to get this one running and possibly try my hand at porting to warm it up. I cleaned up and chamfered the ports on my 440 clone build, would be fun to go a bit further.

we have a 51 or 61 at work (can’t remember exactly) and it’s on a post hole auger. Really cool setup actually. It sees daylight once every 2 years it seems. The dang thing always fires up and works just fine!

I that picture its looks like the exhaust deflector is on backwards?
That's the OEM installation and I never modified it. Yes it does deflect the exhaust back but then another part of the muffler reflects forward. Seems to me that could be a power robber. I may try to flip it around and see what happens. OP may want to look his over as well.

Unfortunately, you can't flip that zig-zag exhaust reflector around. It has a bend that prevents that. Likely Husqvarna did that on purpose. You would have to fabricate a new part in the shop so that the spark screen remains intact. That's not impossible, but it's not a piece of cake for most mechanics.

Saw is here along with the parts I purchassed from Ronie. He gave me a good deal on a clean 630 super cylinder (could be a 162, same cylinder) and nice white top cover. This cylinder (630 super/162) has the same bore as the 61 but is a closed port instead of open. This combo still fits under the original white top.

One day I might like to try a 272 cylinder and cut the original beat up white top a spot for the spark plug to clear.

One issue I noticed right out of the box is that the stop switch freely moves, that will have to be replaced.

I forgot that these came with a Tillotson HS163a OR a Walbro WS17a. I for some reason was only expecting to see a Tillotson.

I think the correct rebuild kit for these Walbros are a k10-ws ?

Also its missing the single screw style airfilter, if anyone has one they want to sell, I'd buy.

Thanks @Ronie - I will send a PM

@David Young - thanks for the tip, I will give it a try.

Speaking of cleaning, thats the next step. I also want to see if I can get the white top a bit whiter with a magic eraser. I have the original busted one to test on which is good.

Having a hard time finding a kill switch for this saw. I'm thinking it's an older design, case grounded since the tangs are copper and I only see one wire going to it on my saw. What are my options here?

Btw I have the wrong ipl for this saw, I thought it was a 1979 but it's definitely not with a Walbro carb and this style switch....but the back of the switch looks broken, maybe it had two posts and I am missing a wire???
