Hi all, looking for information on the 550xp pto side bearing. I know there has been an update (or 2?) since the 550 and 562 has been released. I am looking at bearings and see both the 525 43 42-01 and the 525 43 42-03 bearings listed for the clutch side. Which one is the one I want? They are from SKF. Thanks..

525 43 42 03 is the latest version of the PTO bearing.

Ok, thank you. Looks like a $40 bearing.
yup, they're pricey.
But.....it was the same price on 242 PTO bearing, around 35$. After they went NLA, there was/is a few slacker dealers who can get them, only problem is their price, more like 70$.
Smal production ammount = High sale price

What exactly is the difference between the 525 43 42-01 and 525 43 42-03 ?

Op probably better off buying the short block kit for what your getting for the $ honestly. They have one for the 562, surely they have one for the 550... @Tor R?

They do have short block kit for both 562 and 560, one part number between them. Its the only two short block kits I'm aware of.
# 580663709, 560
# 580663710, 562

I've never heard of 550 short block, but, maybe they've introduced one since they did upgraded the crankcase this year. Their new case has 6 bolts instead of 5 bolts.
That said, if they have not started to machine the cylinder foot area a new block is not worth a $ in my book! +, It would helped if Husky could learn how to mount bearings.

If I understand correctly when you say foot, it's where the case and cylinder base meet? If that's a yes they have a fix for that now at the factory. A dab of motoseal front and rear where the case halves meet on the machined area. Definitely caught my eye when I pulled the cylinder. Seemed a little overkill with a .020 paper gasket. Just replaced bearings on a 2018. Plastic bearing cage disintegrated.

yup, thats right.
Instead taking their time and machine the area (as they used to do in the good old time) they introduced a tube Dow Corning 7091 as a fix.

I happen to work with one today, not always their silicone is enough to prevent air leak :D it would worked if they had had sealant on both sides on such a crankcase as this one have.

Their head gasket is .040, if their gasket had been .020 we would had much more leaks.
