Husqvarna 359 w/ 372XP Crank... Is it possible?

I have been some crazy ideas lately... this is one of them... Husqvarna 372 crank in a 357/359 chassis. BUT... I have a lot to figure out before I can start tinkering..

1- Is there enough material on the cases to bore out the existing bearing pockets to accept the 372 crank bearings?
2- Width of the crank (outside of lobe to outside of lobe)
3- How much bigger are the lobes on a 372 crank
4- Is there enough meat in the case around the 359/357 crank to make the pocket bigger? If not, maybe beef it up with some welding and mill it flat.
5- Spacer thickness (if I need one, that will come later)
6- Measure the inside + outside diameter of the 359 and 372 seals so I get an idea of what material needs to be removed.

Still a lot more things to figure out...

Anything is possible if you're willing to put enough work into it. I saw a 394 once that had a 3120 crank and top end. It had a lot of machine work done. I also saw
a Dolmar 166 once that had an 090 top end.

And with the 36mm stroke, the displacement would only go up to around 62cc. Who knows, it could be an animal when its all said and done.

I just had a few thoughts... What if I could use a 372 crank with a 272 top end, if I could figure it out it could be a freakin monster.

I did some research and the 272 has the same stroke as a 359. SO... a 52mm top end plus and additional 2mm stroke would bring me to 76.45cc!!! That is a 17.45cc gain in displacement!!

The inboard clutch 372 crank won’t work on the outboard clutch setup the 359 uses without serious modifications if I had to guess.

Bore out the 359 to maximum
Then chrome plate a piston that'll fit
Some Old poulans were built this way.

Im thinkin of using the outboard 359 style clutch but I would have to modify the pto side of the crank i bet
 
Top
